From the 1840s, the Basson-Hautbois became a "pivot" stop in the harmonic balance of the French organ.
Of course, it remains a soloist stop of choice, but it now assumes a central role in the expressive Récit color.
The dynamic range of the Récit rests on this stop, the fully opened expressive box propelling it forward or,
when closed, relegating it to the background.
We will examine its characteristics of construction and the manner of bending its tongues;
first for the Hautbois range, then for the Basson range.
